ABOUT CLAY PRINTS

The CLAY PRINT available only at THE HOUSE THAT WE BUILT is part of a continuing printing project that I embarked upon earlier in 2003. Printing is a traditional method used for getting information to the public, reproducing a work of art in small editions, or by combining both concepts, reproducing a work that generates interest in a product or idea from an aesthetic perspective.

I am in the process of creating several works specifically for The House That We Built with hopes of generating more interest in the artists and events posted on this website regularly that have continually inspired me artistically. I've chosen to create clay prints for THE HOUSE THAT WE BUILT because:
1. I enjoy doing it and
2. it's a process that continually allows me exercise my interests of design, drawing, sculpting, painting and printing.

Essentially, I draw an image (in reverse) onto a plate of unfired clay, apply acrylic paint to the image (acrylic dries faster and there's less odor), then transfer the image onto damp paper by pressing the paper onto the plate using only slight pressure.

Because the clay is unfired, working with this porous medium often produces varied results-- some more subtle than others, but that each print is truly unique unto itself.

I wanted to combine my core passion as a visual artist and the development of The House That We Built as a model for pursuing creative endeavors and creating opportunities for oneself.
